Years ago a guy said to me, “When I read the Bible, if it’s written in red I take it more seriously than the rest because those are the actual words of Jesus.” I’m hearing the same kind of rationale from some believers today. It’s often expressed this way, “Since Jesus didn’t say anything about it, it must not be very important”.

The inference is the same. The words of Jesus (written in red ink in some versions of the Bible) carry more weight than the words of the Apostle Paul or other Biblical authors.

That’s a myth that needs to be debunked. The truth is whatever color of ink the publishers use, all the words of the Bible deserve our utmost respect because all of them come from God. Psalm 119:160 declares, “All your words are true; all your righteous laws are eternal.”

Jesus promised His disciples that the Holy Spirit would guide them into all truth and whatever they bound on earth would be bound in heaven.

Jesus said, “The Scripture cannot be broken” (John 10:35). He prayed in Gethsemane, “Sanctify them by the truth. Your word is truth” (John 17”17).

Eric Lyons wrote, “To treat the words of Moses, Paul, Peter, and other inspired penmen as ‘second class’ Scripture is equivalent to saying that “God’s Word is not as important as God’s Word.” The fact is, “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God” (2 Timothy 3:16).

Since Jesus was/is God in the flesh, there is a very real sense in which the entire Bible is the word of Christ. It could all be written in red. So, whatever color publishers make the words of Jesus and other Bible writers, all of them deserve our utmost respect because all of them come from God.
